YKC100 Assignment 1 Part A) The Apology I accept that Socrates should non have been condemned based on the stations laid against him because they were disadvantageously certain and were non strong enough to warrant a blameful conviction. First of all the luff of atheism was contradicted by the charge that he taught race about gods that were unofficial by the tell. I agree with the defense that Socrates put forth regarding this accusation. He acress that he does believe in divine beings, which means that he could non be an atheist. If the charge was solely about his teachings on unsanctioned gods then it would have been a stronger accusation, but it is contradictory in nature and thus it cannot be upheld. The charge of being a Sophist is to a fault structurally weak in my opinion. Socrates did not teach state how to persuade people, or how to present arguments. instead he tried to encourage the people of Athens to contrive themselves in the hopes that they would realize they are not all as wise as they may think themselves. I am aware that this embarrassed and upset many people, but a legal accusation should not be based on emotions, it should be purely based on fact. I would also like to address the fact that Sophists were well known for charging horrific fees for their services.

Socrates did not make a profit in his attempts to clear up the people of Athens. This can be noted by the state of poverty that Socrates lived in. Due to the lack of evidence to support the occupy that Socrates was a Sophist this is yet another illegitimate accusation. I also disagre e with the accusation stating that Socrates ! misled or corrupted the youthfulnessfulness. The youth of Athens found Socrates cross-examinations of people who thought they were wise amusing. sound they started to conduct their own examinations and learned that many people who were supposedly knowledgeable were not.
